How I know I no longer belong in California:
  • I have brown hair now.
  • I only brought 3 pairs of shoes for my 3 week vacation. And not because of suitcase restraints, I really only own 3 pairs of shoes.
  • I'm the only one at the mall looking like I stepped out of Target instead of a fashion runway. And, truth be told, a Target from 5 years ago.
  • I'm the only one at the mall not carrying a small dog.
  • I'm the only one at the mall walking around with a ketchup-smeared white shirt from a lunch at Del Taco with 3 small children.
  • I have never owned anything from Anthropologie.
  • I have no skinny jeans, leggings, or headbands, and have no desire to.
  • I've gotten used to driving 65 mph on the freeway instead of 80 mph.
  • It feels really cold here.
  • I've decided that "frumpy" is the only way to describe my look.
  • I permanently damaged my right foot from wearing stilettos for my sister's wedding. Truthfully, 2 weeks later, my foot is still not right.
  • When I walked into the temple for my sister's wedding I was immediately beseiged by my mom and aunts because I "put my bridesmaid dress on wrong."
  • I own minimal amounts of jewelry and accessories and wear them even less.
  • 5 lanes of traffic on the freeway now terrifies me.
  • I can't get warm enough to jump in the pool.
  • I can finish my whole dinner all by myself when I go out to eat.

You make me laugh - not laughing "at" you but "with" you. I'm excited to hear about the wedding.

If it makes you feel better, I constantly get comments here in Florida that I dress too nice. That can get ultra annoying and makes me feel self conscious. Today I finally put on ripped jeans, flip flops, and a t-shirt and asked my co-workers if they were happy now.

Just don't start saying ya'll and turn completely Texan on me.

I adore you. We are so alike. However I think most of those have to do with being a mommy, not necessarily from living outside of california!!

According to that list-I would NEVER fit in in CA. I think I already knew that, but my assumptions have been verified.

I'm laughing too hard to come up with any kind of comment. You crack me up! Looking forward to pictures of you in Stillettos.

Hey - so turns out one of my best friends Wendy, was the photographer at Tricia's wedding! We were out to dinner last night with some other people from San Diego, started playing the name game - Wendy goes oh yeah do you know the Neuenswanders? Tricia is a lucky duck - her pictures will turn out amazing. I wish I would've tagged along as her assistant or something so I could've seen everybody!

being a cali girl myself I can totally relate to this! The only difference- I've been gone much longer than you which shows~ you're definitely more stylish than I am.

ps- I found you on Katie E's blog. Can I add you to my list?

you are too funny! I can relate to all of that. I actually tried on three different neckalaces one Sunday but I every time I looked in the mirror I looked like I was trying too hard. Or it could have been that I purchased the necklaces back in 1995 so I just looked out of style. Maybe I can enlist my Laurels for help! :)

Very funny- you crack me up. i can always count on your blog giving me a good laugh :) I know what you mean about the wearing cute stylish clothes thing- I always find myself feeling like I need to get my hair colored and cut or go buy new clothes when I go to California- it seems like the only time too that you can find me wanting to wear jewelry every day. So, I guess you can say that I am in denial that I haven't been a CA resident for almost 5 years...but really, I think my heart will always belong to San Diego. Ah, I LOVE and miss that place too much.

You are hilarious! And I hear you on thinking CA is cold now! I can never get myself to swim there! It's straight to the jacuzzi for me! I can't believe I used to swim in the ocean for hours on end and not feel cold either. All in the past . . . :)

Even if I don't fit into San Diego, at least I still feel out of place in Baltimore. Keepin' it real!
