Classics I've Rediscovered

Have you read Jane Eyre lately??? I read it when I was fourteen and remember liking it, but hadn't thought too much about it. I picked it up again for Book Club and wondered what it would be like since I could vaguely remember some of the plot twists, but I was still blown away. I've read so many current books lately I'd forgotten that classics are classic for a reason. The themes and ideas in this book are amazing, and the romance! Oh the romance! I finished it yesterday and actually started re-reading it again today I liked it so much.
I recorded Snow White off the Disney Channel for Izzy a few weeks ago and sat down to watch it with her one Sunday afternoon. When I think about how this was the first full-length animated feature and that the year was 1937 it seems pretty incredible. Not to mention that I think "One Song" the song the prince sings to her at the well is one of the most romantic songs ever. I loved early Disney stuff. If you have a spare seven minutes, check out Johnny Fedora and Alice Blue Bonnet, one of my all time favorites. My sisters and I used to love sitting around watching cartoons like that.
I've never read a western before. Never had an interest, but I love saga-y types of things and I'd always heard good things about Lonesome Dove. In college a roommate had brought the miniseries up to school and tried to get my sister and Chad and I to watch it with her, but we couldn't get past the word "poke" and turned it off after about 10 minutes. I finally sat down and gave the book a try and LOVED it. It was so exciting and entertaining, and also gave me a great appreciation for people who settled the Old West.

Anybody have anything else for me to rediscover?

I'm a little scared of Lonesome Dove-but I trust your judgment, so maybe I'll pick it up at the library. I mean, you were the one who recommended Gone With the Wind and it was fabulous!!

Hmmm, I will have to think of other classics. BUT you, yes YOU are a fan of the little known Jonny Fedora?!?!?!?!?! We Eaton girls REGULARLY burst out into the song of the hats in love. You just made me even more convinced that YOU are a genius.

Not exactly a classic by traditional means but a classic in my eyes that I will be rereading on our cruise: From the Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankenweiler.

Love Jane Eyre and Snow White. Especially the piecrust scene. I have been wanting to watch it with Lucy running around in her Snow White costume.

You might enjoy Silas Marner, absolutely fantastic. Also the Chosen, one of my all time favorites.
