- We would have had to evacuate from where we lived in San Diego, the fire came within a few streets
- My parents, brother, sister, aunt, uncle and cousin all evacuated to my grandparents' house--where they will continue to stay until electricity is restored
- My parents' house was in the direct line of fire. They sat in front of the TV at my grandparents' all evening and watched their former Bishop (who had not followed the evacuation order) who lives 2 streets over battle flames in his backyard and attempt to save his home
- They went all of Monday night not knowing if it had burned to the ground or not. Early Tuesday morning, my dad snuck past National Guard barricades to his house to find it still standing. The pool was completely black, some trees were down, and everything was covered in ash. But it's still standing.
- Their next-door neighbor's house was still standing as well, but had been looted
- Many, many close friends' homes burned. We are still learning the totals.

Katie - I was wondering about your family! Thank goodness things turned out ok! I knew they were right there in the thick of it, along with the Ottesons. This has been so awful to watch - like our childhood burning up or something... A lot of the apartments Brent and I used to live in in RB burned down. Did you hear if there was any damage to the high school? And what about the Jergensen's, is their area ok? The only families that I know of for sure that lost their homes are the Brunsons' and Mangums. I know there are more, but some I don't know. The Meachams are ok (barely) along with the Sabins, Hawks, Brundages and Ottesons. You probably knew that already. Well thanks for the update and awesome pictures. Things are ok in Temecula still, though we can see flames and smoke over the hills to the south of us in Fallbrook. Still very stressful and scary. Makes you glad you moved to Texas...
Katie--Thank you for the update. How scary, I can't even imagine how scary and sad this must be for everyone. I'm glad though that everyone is okay.
i'm so relieved to hear about the sabins! i'd heard their home had burned!
Thanks for the update Kate-praying for everyone in San Diego area! Brooke and her family live up in San Marcos and they have had to evacuate (or did I already say that?). She's not sure if she still has a house to go back to or not. That's so crazy! Glad your family hasn't lost their house-isn't it ridiculous that there is looting going on? Come on people!
I'm so glad you're family/house is ok. You moved just in the nick of time. Who are these people that just like, start fires? How sick do you have to be? Arsonists make my blood boil.
Wow, Katie that is a lot for you to watch and to be going through. I hope that your family continues to be safe. We are praying for everybody!
Wow, such a sad thing. Thank goodness your parents didn't lose their home. I can't believe how close you guys were, scary. Thanks for the update.
That is too bad. I am glad to hear that your family is okay and that you guys moved just in time. It must be hard for you to watch everything on tv and be so far away from your family and friends.
Scary how close to home those fires were. I'm so happy your parents house was okay. Did the bishop's house make it?
