Here's what I've been up to (for those who care. Or are too bored to find something better to do):
- Trying to think of clever posts. The lack of posts is a strong indicator that I came up short on that one.
- Wandering the aisles of Home Depot dumbstruck with the overwhelming amount of homeowner products and trying to determine which ones are actually important to have.
- Silently willing the mom in the dermatologist's waiting room to be quiet. Maybe I'm just jaded from having so many kids so close together that the novelty has worn off, but seriously, if your 9-month-old is sitting quietly in the stroller, don't feel the need to draw attention to her (and you) by talking loudly in baby talk so that the whole room can hear you tell her how good she's being. Just enjoy it! And when she drops her toy, there's no need to use your high-pitched-baby-talk voice and ask her, "Do you want me to pick that up? Do you want ME to pick that up? Do you want ME TO PICK THAT UP?" Of course she does, you're the only one who can reach it. She's in a stroller and can't even walk yet. Just pick up the toy and read a magazine silently like the rest of us!
- Attempting to convey a semblance of order to my in-laws who are visiting. Those vacuum lines in the carpet were mere seconds old when they walked through the door.
- Freaking out about food storage. I've ignored it for years because of our frequent moves and dismissed all the paranoia of late--but it's starting to get to me and now I'm panicking. I bought a giant container of powdered milk at the grocery store Thursday. I'm not even sure what to do with powdered milk, but I now own one large box of it. Does anyone know how to store this or what the shelf life is?
- Keeping the gobbler fantasy alive. I didn't mean for it to get so out of control (sometimes Rylee tells me in the morning that she heard the gobbler in her room last night and it scared her), but it's been keeping the toys cleaned up for almost 2 weeks now and I have no intention of ruining it.
- Trying to think of names for Chad's future dental practice. We've ruled out Armadillo Dental and Best in the West.
- Realizing I'm nearly free. Izzy only takes two naps a day now, and Avery one. Preschool is almost over for Rylee. Izzy eats baby food and some real food and thanks to her 6 teeth will hopefully be done nursing in the next month... We might be able to have some fun this summer! We might lounge at the pool! We might hit the zoo! The sky's the limit...
- Spending two hours on my hands and knees washing tile floors. I need a new Swiffer Wet Jet.
- Watching the joy Rylee and Avery get out of helping me clean toilets. It's as good as Disneyland for them.
- Attempting to make conversation with my new neighbors who are all way cooler than we are (sorry, Chad, I'm throwing you in with that one too, have you seen Denton's clothes?), but fortunately, are all very nice.
- Starting over trying to make friends in my new ward--which is ending up being much more difficult than my previous ward due to the sheer volume of people our age. The entire back row of Gospel Doctrine in the cultural hall is filled with pre-nursery age kids--it reminds me of Maryland. Maybe they'll give us our own class; too bad we can't get Kate Smith back as the teacher... Anyway, we still have more kids than all of them and are having some trouble integrating. But we'll shove our way in there eventually.
- Dealing with our insurance company for the aftermath of Avery's burns and the upcoming plastic surgery she's going to have as we begin phase 1 of 3 for the removal of her birthmark.
- Talking myself into dieting. I started a "eat whatever I want (like I usually do), but only half of what I would normally eat" diet. It worked great until Easter hit, and now I'm having a hard time getting back into the groove.
- Keeping Izzy off the stairs, which is the first place she crawls to if she even thinks you're not looking...
- Catching up on 6 months worth of Ensigns and other magazines that I sorely neglected during my Texas move and subsequent house hunt (but not you, Entertainment Weekly, I would never get behind on reading YOU).
And that's what I've been up to. That, and sleeping better--thanks to my new downstairs master bedroom and 3 nights of sleep-training Isabelle.

Sounds fantastic, and way more interesting than my life.
armadillo dental sounded like a winner to me.
And I always thought Denton was a made-up name for rich doctors in Hollywood movies--I've never really met anyone with that name, but I would imagine they'd be stylish
Do you remember our days of scrubbing the laminate floor in our pajamas at the Northwoods apt. How come we always got that job?
Now I'm even commenting in bullet points on your blog (it's addicting!).
All hail the Swiffer Wet Jet. Seriously one of the best inventions ever.
I have no idea if that's the right spelling for hail/hale?? English major - shmeenglish major.
glad to have you back... diet or no diet. I too have tried to will people to be quiet! and why is it always "that" mother that seems to tick us off?!
I am not a food storage expert but you should check out provident living.org. They recently made changes to what and the way we should store a year supply. Good luck!
I have no help for the dental practice name, I feel your pain walking through Home Depot - we have made 5 trips there in two weeks and the damage to my checkbook, well,...I'll leave that one out, as for food storage, funny you mention it, I have recently been on a paranoia kick too buying double the flour and sugar and hitting the case lot sales, along with filling our giant water barrel, and lastly, while you are very kind to wish me back as your Gospel Doctrine teacher, I am not up for the time commitment that calling required, although I do miss leanring as much as I did when I studied for each lesson.
So much fun to move isn't it? and with three kids...
I'm impressed. I can hardly remember why I have gone downstairs let alone what I have been doing for the past week.
C'mon "Best in the West" has all kinds of potential....Chad could dress as a cowboy everyday-complete with chaps and you could have country music playing-I'd go to a dentist like that for sure!!
As for the powdered milk thing-if it is in a can it has a shelf life of 3-5 years, if it's the kind that comes in a bag, only about 1 year. I've been crazy about food storage lately too-I figure there's got to be a reason that we keep hearing about it.
I don't remember you ever getting stuck with the scrubbing the laminate flooring job-but I do remember cleaning the bathrooms with Annie. Those were the days-six girls and one small bathroom area. Fun, fun! Remember when you guys put my hair in hot rollers before church one Sunday?-that was not a good look for me. Ahhh...the memories.
Another great bullet post. I was wondering if you were alive down there in Texas! It sounds like you have been busy doing those everyday "mom" things. Isn't life great?
Hi Katie! Of course I remember you. Your girls are SO cute. How did you guys end up in Round Rock? We are in the Brushy Creek Ward (but next Sunday is our last one here). We're moving to Utah in less than 2 weeks so my husband can finish up his prereqs at BYU. Packing the house is the pain of my life right now! Do you live in Avery Ranch? Part of that development is in my ward so I'm sure you're only about 5 minutes away from us! How are you liking it here?
