3 for 1

I always get nervous when I take my kids to the doctor for a sick visit. While I never truly wish them to be ill, I can't help but hope for some kind of diagnosis that warrants my $30 co-pay, as well helps me to not lose face in front of the doctor for being some kind of neurotic, hypochondriac mother. Plus, Chad is usually like, "Well, if you really think she needs to see the doctor..." I don't want to come home and tell him, nope, it's just a cold. Never should have taken her in the first place....

But this and a hurting ear warranted a visit

Apparently breaking out in a rash can be a sign of strep. That and throwing up just once. "Hmm," I mused to the doctor. "Izzy threw up just once this week." Even though the appointment was for Rylee (and her ear infection, which I had correctly diagnosed, by the way, but not the strep, didn't see that one coming) she decided to take a peek. Yep, Strep #2. So on the way home I called Chad to check in Avery's throat. Strep #3. I phoned the doctor and had her call in a third prescription.

Somehow I feel like I've cheated the system, because even though I had to pay the extra $10 in addition to the copay for a Saturday office visit, I had three children diagnosed for the price of one. That sure beats the $170 I paid in copays in one month last year. We may not be getting any healthier over here, but we sure are getting smarter.

I'm with you on wishing illness just so I don't 'waste' a copay. Hate it when that happens, but sometimes you have to fork out the dough for peace of mind. Hope the antiobiotics have kicked in by now.

I didn't know you could et a rash with strep?!? Hey-at least they'll all get sickness over with at the same time, instead of one and then the next and so forth. Good luck!

Oh my, you poor family! No fun to all be sick at the same time. Don't forget to get the girls new toothbrushes so they don't re-infect themselves... I'm sure you have plenty of those lying around!!! Hope everyone is feeling better soon.

I'm glad you're able to see the upside of things and appreciate the 3 for 1 deal. But I'm sorry about the strep :( hope the girls get better soon!

From one medically-challenged mom to another -- good luck with that! You really make me appreciate my poor peoples' free health insurance.

Who could have known that it was strep? Last fall I had an earache and then a rash so I went in and it was strep. It was awful. I can't imagine taking care of three little ones with it. You must be so tired:(

Way to beat the system! I hate strep. I had it a few months ago and didn't go to the doctor until the 5th day of feeling completely miserable (wanted to avoid a copay for no reason) and yep, it was strep. I thought you could only get that as a kid! Thank goodness for antibiotics!

Congrats on the co-pay, it feels good to win at the doctors office every once in a while!

that is so funny! I would totally feel the same way - YES all 3 kids have strep and I only had to pay one co-pay! Ha. it doesn't take a lot to make us mothers feel good, does it?

and by the way for some reason my google reader hadn't been picking up your feed. I was coming to your site to be like what the heck - why don't you ever blog anymore - and see that there are tons of posts i missed. sorry dude. I'll play catch up now.
