I think I may have found the solution here. The problem is, I have two of these exactly same niches on the first floor. Do I do the same thing with them, or different things. They are not directly next to each other. I also have a much wider/bigger one behind a serving bar. I was thinking of painting that one like a dark brown, or some accent color, and then maybe hanging 3 square mirrors or pictures. But now that I think about that, the mirror frames would probably blend into the wall if I did it in brown. Ugh. Good thing I don't have money to decorate and am mostly just dreaming...

Do you guys have a Hobby Lobby nearby cause they sell things like this and they are half off like every other week...

go for mirrors with metal frames so they don't get lost in the brown paint. Or Pottery Barn usually carries frameless mirrors in interesting shapes. Or, we got my sister these bamboo framed mirrors from Crate & Barrel last year for her birthday and they look great against her blue paint . . . or I've been drooling over these kind of modern ones for a year now (http://www.crateandbarrel.com/family.aspx?c=1420&f=3134), they look great grouped together.

It's so easy to decorate with other people's money :)

I'm so glad that you are asking these questions. This is going to be me in a year (hopefully less) and I love reading peoples answers. I would still go for mirrors just with a frame that didn't blend, I like the idea of metal ones. I love what mirrors do for a room!!

I am so in the same boat as you are... new house and no idea what to do with it... and I LOVE that faux iron link, especially the niche and ceiling pieces, I don't think it matches the style of my home but maybe I will just make it work.

one day ladies.... one day.

decorating is a hard thing. i've found you just have to go buy a bunch of random stuff- set it in the spot, see how you like it.. then return it if it doesn't work. too hard to imagine at the store. just remember to take it back..(i forget sometimes!)
